Connecting one Expansion Shelf to the Primary Shelf
The Expansion Shelf connects to the Primary Shelf but it does not connect directly to the compute node.
Note:
To connect one Expansion Shelf to the Primary Shelf
- Verify that the nodes and existing RBOD storage shelf are powered on. The nodes and storage shelf must remain powered on throughout the expansion process.
Do not remove the cables between the compute nodes and the Primary Shelf.
- Connect the newly added EBOD (s) power cords as described in this section.
- Power on the newly added EBOD(s).
- The 5U84 EBOD spins up drives in a staggered manner. Allow a minimum wait time of 5 minutes for all 84 drives to become operational.
- Obtain the two SAS-3 cables that ship with the Expansion Shelf.
- Identify the single SAS-3 port on the right side of each controller module in the Primary Shelf.
- Identify ports A and C in each I/O module in the Expansion Shelf. Port B is not available for use.
Connect the cables as follows:
Connect one cable to each of the SAS-3 ports on the right of each controller module on the Primary Shelf.
Connect the other end of each cable to port A in each I/O module in the Expansion Shelf.
- Verify the final cable configuration.
- Add the new disk space with the instructions in one of these sections.
