pgbackrest utility stanza configuration for PostgreSQL forks
In environments that use PostgreSQL forks such as EDB Postgres Advanced Server (EPAS), pgbackrest may require the pg-version-force parameter to be provided during backup execution, as pgbackrest may not automatically detect the correct PostgreSQL version.
This parameter can be added within the corresponding stanza definition in the pgbackrest.conf file.
Stanza naming -
For scheduled backups, the stanza name is derived from the NetBackup policy name (present in the Protection Plan details) and PostgreSQL instance port: -
Policy: pgsql_pgbackrest+cbf7d91b-4b62-43bf-a99c-34ba2887c5a9 → Stanza name: pgsql_pgbackrest_<port>
Policy: pgbackrest_bkp+c42b7301-577a-4320-bea1-02c9d1c2f611 → Stanza name: pgbackrest_bkp_<port>
For manual (on-demand) backups, the stanza name is always:
BACKUPNOW_<port>
The pgbackrest configuration file is typically located in one of the following paths, depending on installation and OS packaging:
/etc/pgbackrest/pgbackrest.conf
/etc/pgbackrest.conf
/var/lib/pgbackrest/pgbackrest.conf
The pgbackrest configuration file example:
[pgsql_pgbackrest_5432] pg-version-force=16
[BACKUPNOW_5432] pg-version-force=18
Note:
The pg-version-force parameter value must match the actual PostgreSQL server major version; otherwise, backup or restore operations may fail.
