Add an OLVM server
Register your OLVM server with NetBackup so that NetBackup can discover and protect your OLVM VMs. You can register an OLVM server by providing the engine host name and credentials on the KVM Hosts page in the NetBackup Web UI. OLVM servers are listed and managed alongside traditional KVM hosts under a single unified view.
You can register multiple OLVM servers in a single NetBackup domain.
Prerequisites:
Verify that your OLVM environment is running version 4.5 or later.
Verify that the NetBackup Backup Host has network access to the OLVM engine (HTTPS, port 443) and to the OLVM ImageIO daemon on each hypervisor host (HTTPS).
Obtain the OLVM engine host name and an account with sufficient privileges to discover VMs, create backups, and initiate restores. Refer to your OLVM documentation for required permissions.
Verify that your NetBackup primary server and backup host are running release 11.2.0.1 or later.
Verify that the ovirt-imageio service is running on every OLVM host that stores backed-up disks.
Verify TLS trust is configured between the Backup Host and the OLVM engine and hosts.
Port 54322 is required for incremental (CBT) backups. If only the engine proxy port (54323) is reachable, backups continue to run, but the full disk data is transferred during each backup.
Verify the OLVM account has sufficient privileges: inventory read, backup and checkpoint create/finalize, snapshot, and image transfer. For restores, the account also needs the following permissions: VM and disk create/delete, NIC and tag attach, HA settings, image-transfer upload, and placement into the target cluster.
To add an OLVM server
- On the left, select Workloads > KVM, then select the Hosts tab.
- In the right pane, select Add.
- In the Platform field, select OLVM (Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager).
- In the Hostname field, enter the host name of the OLVM engine (oVirt Manager). For example: olvm-engine.example.com
- In the Port field, enter the OLVM engine port. If not specified, the default port (443) is used.
- In the Validation backup host field, select the NetBackup media server/client used to communicate with the OLVM server.
- Specify the credentials that you need to connect to the OLVM server.
Select the Custom credential type to see the following options:
Select existing credential
Add a new credential
On the Credentials page, specify the required credentials or add new credentials and save the information.
Note:
Enter the OLVM account username in the format user@domain (for example, admin@internal). Authentication fails if the @domain suffix is omitted.
