Configuring the PBX LocalPortRange setting in a cluster
In a clustered NetBackup environment, configure the PBX LocalPortRange setting identically on all cluster nodes. This ensures that PBX allocates ports from the same range regardless of the active node and helps prevent port-related failures during failover.
Note:
Setting this range requires NetBackup and VxPBX to be fully stopped and restarted on the node being configured, causing a brief service outage on that node.
To configure the PBX LocalPortRange setting on UNIX/Linux clusters, perform the following steps:
To configure the PBX LocalPortRange setting on UNIX/Linux clusters
- Stop NetBackup:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpdown -f -v
- Verify that NetBackup processes are stopped:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpps
Typically, only bpps appears in the output. If other NetBackup processes remain, stop them by using your standard procedure.
- Stop VxPBX:
/opt/VRTSpbx/bin/vxpbx_exchanged stop
- Configure the local port range by using vxpbxcfg:
/opt/VRTSpbx/bin/vxpbxcfg -s --localportrange min_port-max_port
Replace min_port and max_port with the same port range on every cluster node. For example, 10000-10100. Ensure that the selected port range is allowed by local firewall rules and does not conflict with other applications.
- Start VxPBX:
/opt/VRTSpbx/bin/vxpbx_exchanged start
- Start NetBackup:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpup -f -v
- Repeat these steps on all cluster nodes to ensure that every node uses the same local port range.
Note:
Setting this range requires NetBackup and VxPBX to be fully stopped and restarted on the node being configured, causing a brief service outage on that node.
To configure the PBX LocalPortRange setting on Windows clusters, perform the following steps:
To configure the PBX LocalPortRange setting on Windows clusters
- Stop NetBackup. Run the command from an Administrator command prompt. Replace install_path with your NetBackup installation directory.
install_path\NetBackup\bin\bpdown /f /v
- Verify that NetBackup processes are stopped.
install_path\NetBackup\bin\bpps
- Stop VxPBX:
net stop VRTSpbx
- Configure the local port range by using vxpbxcfg.
install_path\VxPBX\bin\vxpbxcfg -s --localportrange min_port-max_port
Replace min_port and max_port with the same port range on all cluster nodes. For example, 10000-10100. Ensure that the selected port range does not conflict with other applications and is allowed by local firewall rules.
- Start VxPBX:
net start VRTSpbx
- Start NetBackup:
install_path\NetBackup\bin\bpup /f /v
- Repeat these steps on all cluster nodes to ensure that every node uses the same local port range.
