NetBackup™ for Cloud Object Store Administrator's Guide

Backup fails or becomes partially successful on GCP storage for objects with content encoded as GZIP.

Explanation:

The problem is attributed to the 'decompressive transcoding' feature of GCP. When an object is compressed with gzip and the content-encoding header is set to gzip, the objects go under decompressive transcoding and they are stored compressed in cloud. Such objects never report object size as part of the content length header. NetBackup cannot backup an object when the size is not returned.

For details, see this GCP documentation page.

Workaround:

Use a different mode of content encoding than GZIP.
