NetBackup™ Deduplication Guide

About the cloud direct

The MSDP generates data containers in a storage server and uploads them to the cloud storage for backup. It transmits the coming data stream from the client to the media server and storage server. For restore, the storage server downloads the data container from the cloud storage, reads the data segment from the data container file, and sends it to the client.

The mtstrmd service running on the client or the media server writes and reads the image data to or from the cloud storage directly. Only metadata is sent to the storage server. It leverages client resource and reduces the storage and the media server data transmission overhead.
