This report is applicable to only NetBackup, Networker, TSM, and Commvault Simpana.
A scratch pool is a repository of media that is available to backup servers. There are a few things that affect the availability of media in a scratch pool:
If your backup servers run out of media, they automatically take and use media from the scratch pool.
If your backup servers delete data, making media available, they automatically add the recycled media to the scratch pool.
When you clean tapes or expire tapes, you temporarily or permanently affect the pool of media.
Note:
The current day is treated as the future for the purpose of forecasting.
Because backup success is tied directly to scratch pools, it's important that you monitor and forecast media usage in the scratch pools.
