Managing the virtual machines for recovery to Azure using NetBackup MSDP-C.
The backup that are sent by the NetBackup to the media server are deduplicated by the NetBackup Deduplication Engine which is hosted on the media server. The media server writes this data to the deduplication pool on the target storage i.e on the Azure storage account.
The NetBackup CRS hosted on the Azure cloud imports the backup and converts the backup images to VHD files.
These VHD files are used by Resiliency Platform to create the virtual machines. To perform this above mentioned process, Resiliency Platform install the NetBackup Cloud Recovery Readiness Bundle only on Linux workloads. This bundle will boot up the driver required for installation and network customization for Azure.
To manage virtual machines for remote recovery to Azure Cloud using NetBackup MSDP-C
- Review the prerequisites:
For non-root user, ensure that the permissions are met before installing the Recovery Readiness Bundle.

Resiliency Platform automatically installs the Recovery Readiness Bundle only on Linux workloads. Ensure that the Recovery Readiness Bundle is installed if it is not installed manually.
Ensure that the virtual machine configuration prerequisites are met.

Navigate to:
Assets (navigation pane) > Resiliency Group(s) tab > Manage & Monitor Assets
You can also launch the wizard from the Unmanaged or Overview tabs.
- Do the following to select the virtual machines:
Select two Host as the asset type which are Linux and Windows, select the data center, and select other filters as needed to display a list of virtual machine.
Drag and drop the required virtual machines to Selected Instances, and click Next.
The next page displays the environment for the selected assets on both the data centers, click Next.
- The next page lists the service objectives that are available for the selected assets. You can expand the service objective to view details. Select the appropriate service objective.
- Select the target (recovery) data center.
- Do the following in the NetBackup Configuration panel, and click Next.
- On the Host Configuration panel, you need to provide the credentials of the root user which is used to install the NetBackup Recovery Readiness Bundle. Only Linux machines are displayed on this panel.
- Complete the customization for Azure.

The wizard presents the customization options that you can apply to the virtual machines when the recover operation is invoked. You must provide these inputs and configure the protection for the virtual machines.
- Verify the summarized information and enter a name for the resiliency group. When you finish the wizard steps, Resiliency Platform invokes a workflow which initializes the virtual machines for the disaster recovery configuration. - Verify that the new resiliency group is added to the Resiliency Groups tab.
