About the SED states
The appliance hardware monitoring shows the SED state for your self-encrypting drives (SEDs). It may show any of the following states:
Not SED Capable
This state means that the drive is a standard drive that does not have the hardware encryption capabilities of an SED.
Not Secured
This state means that the drive is an SED, but its security features have not been configured yet. In this state, data on the drive is accessible without a password or specific authentication, so it is not protected from unauthorized access.
Secured, Unlocked
This state means that the drive is an SED that has been configured and secured with an encryption key, and it is currently unlocked. When the drive is unlocked, the operating system and authorized users have access to the data.
This state is the normal operating state for an SED.
Secured, Locked
This state means that the drive is an SED that has been configured and secured with an encryption key, and it is currently locked. When the drive is locked, the data is inaccessible until you provide the key, even if the drive is physically removed and connected to another system.
This state is the ideal state for an SED when it is not actively in use.
