Moving an appliance with SEDs
Use the following procedure to move an appliance with self-encrypting drives (SEDs).
To move an appliance with SEDs
- Make sure that the keys for the nodes and the storage are saved in a safe location.
Warning:
If you do not have the keys saved and forget them during the move, all data becomes lost and unrecoverable.
If you have never changed the keys, the default keys are as follows:
For each node: The node serial number
For the storage: Encrypt!0nK3y
Use the show serial-number command to retrieve the node serial number from the Flex Appliance Shell.
- Run the following command to clear the stored keys from the appliance:
system sed clear-keys
- Shut down the appliance and physically turn off the appliance hardware.
See the section "Shutting down the appliance" in the Flex Appliance Getting Started and Administration Guide.
- Move the appliance to its new location and turn it on, following the steps in the Hardware Installation Guide. You are prompted to enter the key for each node when it starts up.
Note:
If you do not enter the key within fifteen minutes, the node enters emergency mode. Restart the node to return to the key prompt.
- Run the following command to unlock the storage:
system sed unlock-storage
Enter the key for the storage when prompted.
