Restore OLVM Virtual Machines
You can restore a full OLVM VM from a NetBackup backup image. NetBackup creates the restored VM in OLVM with all original properties. No manual post-restore steps are required.
A full VM restore recreates the following VM properties from the backup catalog:
Display name and UUID (UUID preservation is optional)
CPU topology
All VM disks are recreated and attached with the original disk interface, disk format, provisioning, and storage domain mapping
NIC configuration - Network interfaces are recreated with the original network assignments.
BIOS and firmware type
High-availability configuration (enabled state and priority)
VM tags
Boot order
Delete protection setting
Memory policy (guaranteed and maximum memory)
To restore OLVM VMs
- In the NetBackup Web UI, navigate to Workloads > KVM.
- Search for the VM by name or browse the VM inventory, then select the OLVM VM asset.
- Select a backup image (recovery point), click Recover, and choose Restore virtual machine.
- On the Recovery target page, select the restore destination:
Original location - restores the VM to the same OLVM cluster and storage domains it was backed up from.
Alternate location - select a different OLVM cluster or storage domains.
- (Optional) You can change the restored VM name to avoid naming conflicts with the original VM.
- Go to the Recovery options page to configure the overwrite, power on, and new UUID options.
- If the pre-recovery check passes, click Restore. NetBackup creates the VM in OLVM, writes all disk data, and applies the original VM properties.
