Supported configurations for OLVM backup and restore
Existing generic KVM policies continue to work and are not affected by OLVM support. You can protect traditional KVM and OLVM VMs using KVM policies in the same NetBackup domain.
If you currently use the RHV policy type to protect an OLVM environment, those policies continue to function. To use the native OLVM capabilities (CBT survival across live migration, management-layer-aware restore, no agent on hypervisor hosts), create new KVM policies with OLVM selected as the management server type. RHV policies do not gain OLVM management-layer awareness. There is no separate OLVM policy type.
Table:
Component | Requirement | Notes |
|---|---|---|
NetBackup version | 11.2.0.1 or later | Required on both the NetBackup primary server and the backup host. Older NetBackup versions do not include OLVM support. |
OLVM version | 4.5 or later | OLVM 4.5 is Oracle's current lifecycle ("N") release. Earlier OLVM versions are not supported. |
oVirt API | oVirt REST API v4 | Required for VM discovery, backup, and restore operations. |
Backup Host | NetBackup media server or NetBackup client | The Backup Host communicates with the OLVM engine and handles all disk data transfers. No agent is required on OLVM hypervisor hosts. |
Storage domain types | NFS, Fiber Channel (FC), iSCSI | All three storage domain types are supported. The Backup Host must have network access to the applicable storage. |
Guest agent (SFR to client) | NetBackup client in the guest VM | Required only for agent-based single-file restore. Not required for full VM backup/restore or Web UI file download. |
