Step 2: Virtual Machine options
Configure VM behavior options and the virtual disk format.
Table: VM behavior options
Option | Description |
|---|---|
Overwrite the existing virtual machine | If selected, an existing VM at the destination with the same display name is automatically deleted before recovery. If not selected and a duplicate exists, the restore fails. |
Remove network interfaces | If selected, the original client network interfaces are not configured on the VM. If not selected, the same number of network interfaces and their settings from the source configuration are applied. |
Power on virtual machine after recovery | If selected, the VM automatically powers on when recovery is complete. |
Restore system disks or volumes only | If selected, only the OS disk volumes are restored to the VM. |
Table: Format of Restored Virtual Disks
Disk Format | Description |
|---|---|
Thick provisioning eager zeroed | Allocates the full virtual disk length equivalent to the physical disk. All blocks are pre-allocated and zeroed. Disk creation may take longer. |
Thin provisioning | Only restores populated blocks. Vacant blocks are not initialized or committed. The VMDK grows dynamically as data is written, conserving disk space. |
