NetBackup™ Deduplication Guide

The MSDP volume group components

The MSDP volume group has the following two components:

  • MVG server

The MVG server is a lightweight MSDP server that has the MVG capability. One NetBackup domain can have multiple MVG servers.

In NetBackup 10.5, it can run on any NetBackup media server on the Linux Red Hat platform. We recommend that you run it on a Flex multi-node appliance or along with the NetBackup primary server.

    See About MVG resilience.

  • MVG volume

An MVG volume is a virtual volume. It is an abstraction of a group of regular volumes from individual MSDP servers. One MVG server can manage multiple MVG volumes.

It can be used by NetBackup in the same way as a regular volume in a disk pool and storage unit configurations.

The following diagram illustrates the architecture of the MSDP volume group.
