Updating an MVG volume using the web UI

An MVG supports append-only updates, meaning you cannot insert, delete, or reorder the disk volumes in the group. However, you can perform the following actions through the web UI:

  • Set or update the alternative storage server by editing and saving the MVG configuration.

  • Change the mode of a disk volume within the MVG, such as switching it to the read-only mode.

Note:

If a disk volume fails and cannot be recovered, you can change its mode to read only in the MVG volume. Alternatively, you can re-create the MVG volume by removing it from the list of the disk volumes.

The alternative storage server is used only when the original node is down. In such cases:

  • The cloud LSU on the alternate node must be manually mounted in read-only mode.

  • Once mounted, the alternate node can access pre-existing data and new data that is written by the original node after the LSU was mounted.

For instructions on mounting a cloud LSU as read only on a storage server, see the following topic.

See Reuse cloud LSU as read-only.

The alternative storage server supports restore, verification, and optimized duplication operations.

Note:

The alternative storage server must be a valid MSDP storage server within the current domain.
