NetBackup™ Deduplication Guide

The modes of a disk volume in MVG volume

You can set a disk volume in an MVG volume to one of the following modes using the NetBackup web UI.

  • Normal

This mode is the default mode. MVG server assigns client and policy combinations to disk volumes in Normal mode when the new jobs run with the MVG volume.

  • Read-Only

MVG server does not assign new client and policy combinations to a disk volume in Read-Only mode. For existing combinations, MVG selects a different disk volume for new backup jobs. This mode is useful when you want to temporarily prevent a disk volume from receiving new backup jobs.

  • Maintenance

Before performing routine server maintenance such as upgrades, patching, or restarts, you should set the corresponding disk volume to Maintenance mode and reset it afterward.

In this mode, MVG retains existing client and policy combinations on the disk volume, even if the volume becomes temporarily unstable or non-functional. MVG does not assign new combinations to the disk volume during this time.
