About Replication Gateway pair
To use the Resiliency Platform Data Mover feature, you must deploy at least one Replication Gateway on both the source and target data center. The source and target Replication Gateways must be paired before replication is enabled. Support for IPv6 address is enabled. You can configure the Replication Gateway NICs using IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. While pairing the Replication Gateways across data centers, you are not allowed to pair one Replication Gateway configured using IPv4 only NICs with the Replication Gateway configured using IPv6 only NIC. To pair them, you have to configure Replication Gateways either using IPv4 address or IPv6 address or both IP addresses (IPv4 and IPv6 address). See About IPv6 network support in Resiliency Platform.
Resiliency Platform supports the asymmetric pairing of Replication Gateways. This feature facilitates deployment of only the required number of gateways on each side, based on data transfer rate and technology specific limits.
For each Replication Gateway pair, you can choose to apply an encryption scheme for data replication.
When you protect virtual machines using Resiliency Platform Data Mover, you select the Replication Gateway pair to use for the replication. Once the DR configuration is complete, the Replication Gateway at the source data center starts replicating the data to the paired Gateway at the target data center.
Ensure that the virtualization server storage (datastore and volumes) on which the virtual machines reside, are accessible to the Replication Gateway on the source data center.
From version 3.1 onwards, you can select multiple Replication Gateway pairs. If the target data center is cloud, then using multiple Replication Gateway pairs you can migrate virtual machines to different Availability Zones. Below are the scenarios which are supported in gateway pairing if the target data center is cloud:
One gateway on the source data center can be paired with one gateway on the cloud.
One gateway on the source data center can be paired with multiple gateways on the target data center and vice versa.
One gateway can be paired with up to 16 gateways on the peer site.
Note that, while configuring a resiliency group, you cannot select multiple gateways on the source data center that are paired with a single gateway on the cloud.
Consider the following if you recovery data center is in vCloud Director:
When you configure a resiliency group for recovery, you can select multiple Replication Gateways that belong to different vApps. You need to select the vApp for each virtual machine in the target data center while configuring for remote recovery or when you edit the resiliency group. Ensure that target vCloud network must be accessible to these selected vApps. The target vCloud network is defined when you create network pairs between the source and target data centers. Since a vApp network is accessible to only single vApp, do not use vApp network as target network. Instead use Organization vDC network.
